Despite successfully ascertaining that in fact our fridge temp may have been too high (presumably turned up after an unfortunate incident in which a lot of fresh basil was frozen and ruined before we could make it into pesto), and then walking to Safeway to get a fresh gallon of milk, the sour milk still had the last laugh because we left it in the fridge until we could carry it out to the dumpster and it accidentally found its way into our smoothies this morning. And OK, yes, we drank them anyway. Not that bad, really, probably not that much different than yogurt. So between the pancakes, the smoothies, and the cauliflower soup you weren't supposed to know about, that's three recipes we've made involving spoiled milk this month. Boy, are we on a roll!
Otherwise, this weekend is time for our 2-week shopping trip. The last two weeks went pretty well; we did end up going out a couple of times but truthfully probably not much more than we would have anyway. On the menu this month is a brainchild of Matt's which has yet to be realized but which we are both eagerly anticipating: lasagna pizza. I don't even have to say this, but of course we'll let you know, in vivid detail and living color, how that goes.
The Washingtonian also just released its 2007 Dirt-Cheap Eats list, a roundup of the best and cheapest food in the DC area--and so between that and the aforementioned feeling that sometimes we need more quality time together, I think we're going to try to strike a balance between our previous (attempted) moratorium on eating out and fitting a date or two a month into the budget.
And in case you're bored, this is kind of a funny video.
